Schedule Changes For 3-8 Classes

Our 3-5 & 6-8 Classes Are Now On Mondays & Wednesdays!

We’ve been asked to move our classes for elementary and middle school students to Mondays and Fridays so others can join us in this wonderful learning opportunity! We hope that this opportunity will let other families from Home Based Partnership, Trivium, Heartland, and more join us!

Now that we’re on for Mondays… you’ll probably want to know that our schedule includes all the regular Monday holidays and traditional school breaks built into our academic calendar.

We’re tidying things up to make sure everything shows this change!

Literature + Language + History = Humanities

We’re trying something new this year for our high school students! Instead of having two of English and World History, we’re combing them both into a humanities block!

This is exciting for several reasons! First, we can be efficient and deliberate with choosing assignments. We can cut down on double work! We all have limited time today, so why work about creating extra work?

Second, humanities creates more context for us to understand human accomplishments! History, literature, art, and science are all part of the integrative experience! By blending them together, we can understand the past better. When we understand the pat better, we can take action on the present.

Third, students will be reading more genres, including non-fiction and biographies! By reading a wide range of books and texts, we will all understand how truth, emotions, and argument all fit together.

What We’ll Cover

Our main history text will be World History for US All. This program is available for free online at UCLA!

Topics of discussion include:

  • Ancient Greek, Roman, and Judaeo laws, values, and traditions
  • The Dark Ages’ transition into the Renaissance & Reformation
  • Revolutions & Enlightenment
  • The Industrial Revolutions
  • Imperialism & Colonialism
  • WWI, WWII, and The Cold War
  • 21st Century Transitions

Our Reading Selections will include:

  • Selections from Plato’s Republic
  • Sophocles’s Antigone
  • Student Selected Biographies of Inventors
  • Enlightenment Philosophy, including Pane’s Common Sense
  • Dickens’ Oliver Twist
  • 20th Century Poetry

It’s Perfect for Homeschooling Students!

We’re a vendor with Heartland Charter School and work with others! Best of all, students complete activities for two classes for the price of one!

Enroll now, classes start August 25!

High School Humanities 26-27

$385.00

Join us on a journey of understanding! Students will explore cultures from ancient Greece to WWII and read literature selections to better understand humanity at the time. We’ll explore the essential question of “What does it mean to be human?”

We’re a Non Profit!

Individualized Educational Services is now a 501(c)(3) public charity! We’re very grateful for the opportunity to be of service to the greater Santa Barbara area and bring quality education and community experiences to children and their families!

We’ve got quite the to-do list. We want to create a science lab. Build a teaching kitchen. Teach more students and find more amazing teachers and tutors! All of this, plus create an inclusive space for our community members.

Please be on the look out for community events and fundraising opportunities! It takes a village! But, we know we will get the support, For the Future!

Our Goals

  1. Create a wet science lab. We’ll have even more amazing hands-on science lessons!
  2. Build a teaching kitchen. Two thirds of gen-z adults can’t cook. Let’s change that!
  3. Hire on more teachers and tutors. Let’s work with more students!
  4. Schedule more community events. We feel better when we are with others. Let’s have some fun!
